Anthony and Elizabeth Ramsey resided in Cranberry township throughout their married life. They were members of the White Oak United Presbyterian Church, which their parents had been interested in organizing.
Anthony, son of Alexander and Grace Smith Ramsey (who were both born in Scotland), was born in Cranberry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania on 20 November 1820. He was a farmer; he married Elizabeth McGeorge and they resided in Cranberry Township throughout their married life. They had 8 children. At the time of the 1850 census, he was 29 years old and the value of his land was $1600. His wife Elizabeth was 27, child Elizabeth was 2 and Mary Jane was 4 months. At the time of the 1860 census, he was 39 years old and living in Cranberry Township. He had 6 children living at home at the time and the value of his real estate was $1200, value of personal property was $600. "Mr. Ramsey was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of the community and a descendent of one of its oldest families." (from Butler County History of 1895) The 1870 census lists him at age 49 with 6 children at home. In 1880 he was 59 with wife and 4 children, plus his sister-in-law Jane McGeorge, age 38, was living with them. He died 31 January 1880 at the age of 591/4 and is buried in the Ramsey Cemetery outside of Evans City.
