Grace Smith, daughter of James and Mary Smith, was born 20 January 1776 in Chester County, PA. (Born in Scotland?) Her father, James Smith, was a soldier in the War of the American Revolution and was killed at the Battle of the Brandywine.

("Her mother, Mary, was the daughter of William Irwin (July 1722-19 December 1794 in West Nantmeal Township, Chester County PA) and Grace Darlington (1723---??) She had two sisters: Sarah and Grace. Sarah married Ephrain Allen and had one daughter (Grace) "and that is as far as I go on that line. Grace Irwin (30 Oct 1762-1832) married James Dunwoody or Dunwoodie and had two daughters: Jane and Grace. Daughter Jane (1785-1821) married William James. Daughter Grace (1790-1822) married Abner James. They are all buried at Brandywine Manor Presbyterian Church cemetery. I also knew that Mary Irwin Smith had remarried one Charles Blair in 1780. But from an 'Irwin' in California I learned that she had 4 sons and a daughter to Charles Blair, namely James, Irwin, John, Alexander and Margaret..." (from Rita Schoeffel)

 

She married Alexander Ramsey and they had 6 or 7 children. She died on the farm in Cranberry Township 16 May 1845 at age 69. Burial was in the east section, row 4 of the Ramsey family plot just outside Evans City. Children: Mary, Hannah, James, John, William, Alexander, Anthony.
