David was educated in the local schools, graduated from Knoch High School and was raised in the Cabot Methodist Church. He graduated from Indiana University in Pennsylvania with a degree in criminology. David and his wife Patricia adopted Kelly in 1984 when she was an infant.

David is a Butler city police officer and in March of 1994 was honored in his handling of an armed standoff in the east side of the city. Click here to read the article concerning this incident and the letter of commendation from the Mayor.
